The Trip The Changed It All: The Grand Tetons and Bears
Once we had walked around Jackson, we decided to take the short drive over to the Grand Tetons...
Jenny Lake, under the Tetons, was rated as one of the top places to camp in the United States by Sunset magazine. Take a look why. Here are Danny and I posing in front of different parts of the lake
It is Gorgeous here!
I seriously couldn't take enough photos...
Paved trails meander around the lake...
so you can capture the beautiful view from every angle
Danny pretended to run from a bear on our way out:
And then as we were leaving the Tetons to go to Yellowstone...
We actually saw a bear!
The first of many wild animals we would see on this trip

The Trip That Changed It All: The Road to Wyoming is an Obstacle Course
We left our lava rock campsite, which we found out later was named, "Crater of the Moon National Monument", and set out for our destination. After we got through a traffic jam (in the middle of nowhere on a two lane highway!) that set us over an hour behind... we finally started to see how pretty Idaho really was.
And just as we were getting in the groove and getting to the border of Idaho... we got pulled over by a state trooper! We had been behind a SUV going below the speed limit for a very long time and right when a passing lane opened up and Danny sped up to pass them- a state trooper passed us on the opposite side of the road, turned around, and pulled us over. And when he asked us why we were so far away from home... and we told him about our exciting adventure- he proceeded to tell us how bad of an idea our trip was because Wyoming wasn't beautiful. It was boring. The fishing wasn't good, etc... Did someone have an ex in Wyoming or what?!
Danny sadly holding his ticket

So the traffic jam was back (we found out this is when they repair all the roads from the snow damage)... but we didn't care. Because we had this beautiful view of Idaho... and the cop was behind us the entire time... so going 5mph was just fine. Just get us to Wyoming!

We finally made it to Wyoming! YAY!!! Here's Danny doing his Wyoming hunter stance...
The mountains were still covered in snow.
And here we are with our "So happy to be in Wyoming!" faces. We made it!
So we started heading down the mountain...
And entered the town of Jackson... I swear it's the wilderness version of Corona Del Mar- a charming, upscale, small town with gourmet grocery stores and organic coffee shops (which of course I visited!)
Danny made sure we made our way over to the famous fly fishing store Jack Dennis'
And then we just walked around the town. There's a small park in the middle of the town. Elk antlers (which were naturally shed) are stacked into an arch at the entrances. I fell in love with this town walking around the boutique shops, hotels, and restaurants. The following day they had a huge farmers market and BBQ out here... LOVE
Up Next: We start visiting some National Parks!

The Trip That Changed It All: Relaxing Getaway Becomes Spontaneous Road Trip
Our trip was proving to be just what we had hoped for: Absolutely, 100% Relaxing
The weather was wonderful
And we basically had the whole place to ourselves
Danny was catching fish left and right
And using live worms! He pretended to eat some to gross me out even more than I already was ;)
But it was beautiful. Danny was in his mecca. I was reading Agatha Christie novels like an 80 year old woman, and enjoying every minute of it. It was heaven
But then that night around the campfire, we started talking about places we want to go. One of my life goals is to see every national park... and that's when Yellowstone came up. He'd gone. I hadn't and wanted to. I pulled out the map and while a long drive, I still thought we could fit it into our trip. Decision time: Keep Relaxing where we were for the rest of the week... or go on a crazy adventure that could either turn out disastrous or amazing?
Seeing my crazy, excited brain spinning, Danny suggested we sleep on it. And if I still wanted to go in the morning, we'd pack up and go.
Fast Forward to morning time, I'm sitting in my chair, enjoying my good 'ol Fruit Loops thinking... and maybe it was the Toucan... but something told me to go for it.
So when my husband popped his head out of the tent that morning and saw that I'd already packed everything up, he gave me that face like, "I must love you woman because you are crazy."
We said goodbye to the trees...
To our favorite campsite in the world... Goodbye River... Goodbye Bear lockers... Goodbye sweet little relaxing spot
And we set off for Wyoming...
We reached northern Nevada first... and oh God... that was the longest, most uneventful drive ever. Just dirt forever...
The drive turned out to be MUCH longer than I had planned. We pulled into Idaho at night and still were a couple hours out from the campsite I saw on the map.
The tail end of this long drive was getting questionable. We were driving through dark, dark fields on a two lane highway. There were no gas stations. No other people driving. Nothing. What did I get us into?!
When we finally pulled into the campsite, it was around 2am and we'd been driving over 13 hours! Sorry love!
I wanted to kiss the ground, but then I changed my mind... because the ground was lava rock... and I was in Idaho. What?
We woke up the next morning to this...
And this... I thought Idaho was green and pretty. You can't grow potatoes in lava rock!
Did I just take my husband from his happy green, fishing trip to see this?

Today... I Give Up Chocolate
Image Source here Today is Wednesday, February 17th, Ash Wednesday, the Beginning of Lent. I myself am not Catholic... I'm actually a non denominational Christian, but since I was in Junior High, I've always done lent every year with my mom. So for the second year in a row, I'm giving up chocolate. I eat chocolate like it's no body's business so this is no easy fete. Probably at least twice a day.
But I love lent. Giving up something you love for God is a good practice. And this year, my goal is to also do it without whining about how much I miss it... especially when we're celebrating a birthday with chocolate cake :) Because whining about something you're doing out of an act of love kind of defeats the purpose right?
So here I go- Goodbye Dear Chocolate! I shall see you on Easter!
Do any of you do lent or fast from foods you love for other reasons?
